Today we will talk about the importance of discovering some of the Imperial Cities and explore their history.View of Fes Fes is the 3rd largest city in Morocco and a real hidden gem worth visiting.It is famous for its old walled Medina (Fes el bali) protected by the UNESCO, old religious schools and the Tanneries which is one of the most visited sites by tourists and locals alike.The door to the MedinaThe Tanneries is where the traditional dying of animal skin takes place. The smell is pretty strong, but you will be offered mint to help with it. The Tanneries should definitely be on the list when in Fes

On top of the old Medina that stayed largely unchanged for centuries, Fes is considered the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. It is the site for some of the oldest religious schools and mosques. When visiting Fes these are some of the main attractions one needs to take time and explore:


- Al Qarawiyyin University is the oldest in the world founded by Fatima Al Fihria in 859 AD. It became one of the leading learning centers in the Islamic world.
- Madrasat Al Attarine founded in 1325 AD by sultan Abou Said Othman. It was named after the Attarine Market.
- Marinid Tombs located on the hilltop surrounding the old city and were built in the 14th century.
- Al Madrasa Bouanania Mosque is known for its Marinid architecture.
